Story:
The University of Philippines has organized a three days long program named "The UP ALCHEMES Research Fair" where many youth scientists gathered nationwide. We proudly support this program as a partner organization for the outreach purpose. The organizer of this science fair program has invited our regional representatives as partner guest during this program on February 2-4, 2017 at the University of Philippines.
As a guest representative of Youth Environmental Opportunities- YEO, Valerie F. Panapanaan has successfully attended the Research Fair 2017 held at the University of Philippines on February 2-4, 2017. Valerie expressed her experience about this program participation. Read the story about her participation experience from the below-described article, written by Valerie herself.
A Story of Experience and Achievement:
It was my first time to attend Research Fair that happened this February 2-4, 2017. Aside from it’s my first time to go to UP Diliman alone and that I was not familiar to the place, it was my first time to know what Research fair is all about. I am very privileged and grateful for the opportunity given to me by the founder of YEO to be one of the Regional Representatives of Youth Environmental Opportunities (YEO) at UP ALCHEMES’s Research Fair. Just as what I have expected, I was indeed amazed at how fun Research Fair made science looked more for the participants. Indeed it was a 3-day event filled/ packed with fun activities such as presentation of Research studies, quiz bee, tours and much more. I am glad to have attended at the last day, at least. Also I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Ms. Ana Teresa Ruiz for being accommodating and professional.
“Research Fair (RF) was first launched in 2002 to embody the ideals of the UP Academic League of Chemical Engineering Students ( UP ALCHEMES) academic excellence intertwined with selfless service-in order to shape and inspire the community. It has been a platform for high school students to share and promote their discoveries and inventions. Last year, Research fair nearly had 700 participants from high schools across the Philippines, making it the largest one since its inception. This year, RF paved way for students to become immersed in scientific facilities, starting from science museums and hopefully to branch out to research laboratories and other exceptional facilities in the near future.”
The goal of the Research Fair is very much in line with YEO’s mission which is to “serve the youth around the world through making a flow of transparent and reliable plenty of opportunities information.” With proper investment in the youth’s education and opportunities, YEO believe that the young people’s (ages 10-24) ideas, ideals and innovations could transform the future. I believe that YEO and Research fair both banks on the dogma that the “Youth are the hope of the Nation”.
Personally, I hope that YEO will continue to build strong connection’s to organizations which caters to the world’s scientific needs and those which provides a service for the scientific community.
Kudos Research Fair and YEO! May you continue to shape young minds to the paths of science! Cheers!
