Share your idea for a chance to attend the G7 Environment Ministerial Meetings in October!
On January 1, 2018, Canada assumed Presidency of the G7 group of industrialized countries. Canada’s presidency is orientated around 5 themes, one of which is “Working Together on Climate Change, Oceans and Clean Energy”. If you are 18-25 years old, have reached the age of majority in your country or province (Canada) and are a citizen of one of the G7 countries, The organizer like to hear your solutions to challenges facing global ocean health!
The Challenge:
Using a 2 minute video, answer the following questions:
What is your vision for healthy and productive oceans in 2050?
What innovative solutions would you recommend be adopted to reach this goal?
The program is looking for solutions to one of the following ocean health challenge areas:
Who can participate?
Requirements:
The program is looking for video entries that provide an innovative solution in order to realize your vision for oceans in 2050. For example, they could include ideas about one of the following areas of global ocean health:
Videos must be presented in English, French, German, Italian or Japanese.
Videos must be no longer than two (2) minutes in length.
Each video entry may only identify one participant. For videos created by more than one participant, any prize awarded for that entry will be awarded to the identified contestant.
Videos may contain images of the identified participant only. Entries will be declared invalid if anyone other than the participant appears in the video.
Video entries will be declared invalid if they are late, illegible, incomplete, irregular, forged, garbled or reproduced.
Video entries will be declared invalid if any third party trademarks, brands and/or logos such as sports team logos, businesses, restaurants or coffee chains, etc. are used or displayed, either in a photograph, a drawing or in a piece of creative writing, or in any part of the video, obviously or subliminally.
Video entries will be declared invalid if they negatively depict another person, nation, country, ethnicity, race, religion, age, sex, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
Video entries will be declared invalid if they contain content deemed offensive or inappropriate including but not limited to nudity, vulgarity or violence.
All entries must be shared on Twitter. Participants should make a copy of their video if they wish to keep a copy.
Videos must be original videos taken within one (1) year before the date of entry.
There is no fee to enter this Challenge, and no purchase is necessary.

Who can participate?
- Any G7 country citizen is eligible to participate if they are between the age of 18 to 25 years old on March 15, 2018. Canadians must have reached the age of majority in his/her province or territory of residence.
- Youth from a G7 country, from the age of majority (as defined in their respective country, province or state of residence) up to the age of 25, can participate in the Challenge.
- The Oceans Youth Innovation Challenge is not open to employees, immediate family members of employees or persons living under the same roof as an employee of the Department of Environment and Climate Change Canada or Ocean Wise Conservation Association.
