Overview:
WHEN CAN I APPLY?
Applications for the Whitley Awards 2018 are now open!
Applications close at midnight GMT on 31 October 2017.
WFN will be assessing applications through out the spring months and will be in touch with applicants accordingly.
HOW MUCH FUNDING CAN I APPLY FOR?
To mark our 25th anniversary, this year’s Whitley Awards are worth £40,000 GBP in funding, to be spent over a period of one year.
HOW DO I APPLY?
1. Check your eligibility
Application to the Whitley Awards is open and applicants do not need to be nominated. Whitley Awards are for successful and dynamic, mid-career conservation professionals who are leading wildlife conservation projects that involve local communities.
WFN seek applicants from grassroots conservation NGOs incorporated in biodiversity-rich developing countries, rather than in-country staff from NGOs headquartered in developed countries – but if you are in doubt please contact.
WFN are interested to see applications from conservationists working to conserve freshwater and marine ecosystems in addition to those that conserve terrestrial biodiversity.
Please read the Eligibility section section.
2. Download and complete the application form
Once you have read the eligibility criteria, download the Application Form AND Guidance Notes from the links below. Please note, the Application Form cannot be completed successfully without following these notes.
Download: WA Application Form 2018
Download: WA Application Guidance Notes 2018
The Application Form is a Word document that you can save to your computer and complete in your own time. The Guidance Notes are also in a Word document and include the form for referees.
Please note the application form is only available to download during the set application period (until October 31). Applications made on out-of-date forms from previous years will not be considered.
3. Contact your three referees:
You need to arrange for three referee statements to be submitted in support of your application. Details of referee eligibility can be found in the Eligibility section of this website. Information on what is required of referees can be found in the Guidance Notes, which also contains a referee form for you to email to your referees.
Note that all references must be submitted independently to WFN by the referee and by the closing date of midnight GMT on 31 October 2017.
4. Submit your application:
Email your completed application form, photographs and supporting documents to [email protected].
Please ensure all e-mails are marked with the subject line ‘WA18 application’ and include your name.
Please note that emailed submissions that have multiple attachments of large file size will likely result in delivery failure. When submitting multiple files and large files (such as photographs), it is best to do this by spreading them out over several separate emails. This will keep the overall file size of the email low and reduce the risk of delivery failure. Please make clear where multiple emails have been submitted.
You should send a separate confirmation email with no attachments after submitting your application and supporting images, documents, etc.
Once your application has been received WFN will send an email back to you confirming receipt. Please be aware that we receive a very high number of applications and therefore you may not receive an email immediately.
If you have trouble submitting your application, please contact the WFN office.
